Read the following passage about a girl’s favour- ite fruit and answer the questions that follow:

I am thrilled that May is finally here! Now I can enjoy what I call “the sweet taste of summer”! Water- melons are in the stores, and I plan to eat one every day for the next three months. I think watermelons taste better than any other fruit. Peaches, plums, and strawberries are also great in summer. I enjoy eating them, too. But they just don’t taste as good to me as a sweet, watermelon. My whole family likes eating wa- termelons. We ate at least three watermelons a week last year. This year, I am going to eat watermelons every day, all summer long. 1. Why is the girl excited that May has arrived?

Thoughts

The Little Train tried hard. But her wheels just would not turn. The clown and the animals climbed out of their cars. They tried to push the Little Train. But she could not move.

I don’t know what has happened to me. I have tried hard, but I can’t move. My wheels are stuck. All my friends have come out to help me. How kind they are!

There is something seriously wrong with me. I must go and get examined by a mechanic

Answer

I like playing in the rain. I am so excited when the raindrops fall on me. I have always loved the sound of the rain coming from a distance. Rains always make me feel fresh. The smell of the air, when it rains, is an interesting experience. Sometimes, I invite my friends too, to play with me, when it rains.

Conversation

When Arya was eight years old she wanted to be like Kalpana Chawla. She made for herself an orange space suit. She wore it both day and night. Arya’s: mother watched her odd activities and talked with her. What would be the likely conversation between Arya and her mother?

Activity 4- Answer

Mother: Arya, aren’t you feeling hot in that suit? You’re wearing it both day and night!

Arya: Astronauts have to get used to the suit, Amma. Space is not as safe as the Earth. My suit will protect me from all dangers.

Mother: But Arya, you’re not going to space! You’re just playing make-believe.

Arya:  But Amma, Kalpana Chawla wore a suit like this when she went to space! You’re just a kid playing dress-up.I want to be just like her.

Mother: I know, dear. But Kalpana Chawla was a real astronaut who went to space.You’re just a kid playing dress-up

Arya : But I’m practising, Amma. I need to get used to the weight of the suit and the way it feels. Then I can be a real astronaut like Kalpana Chawla.

Mother: Okay, okay. But please take off the suit for some time so you don’t get too hot. And don’t forget to wash your hair!

Arya: Okay, Amma. But can I keep the suit on for a little longer? Just a few more minutes?

Mother: Fine, but just for a little while.. And remember, being an astronaut is not just about wearing a cool suit. It’s about working hard and studying hard too.

Arya: I know, Amma. I’m learning everything about space and astronomy in school.

On the first day in school Chester was homesick. But he overcame the situation. He wrote his thoughts in his diary.Write a likely diary entry.

Today was an unforgettable day my first day at school. Not happy to leave my Mom and friends. Now I miss them a lot. Wanted to play with my friends and toys. My dear mom…so caring and loving. Her advice was encouraging. Felt lonely. Mom’s absence was so painful to me. Tears rolled down from my eyes. Remembered the secret of her ‘Kissing Hand’. Then I opened my hand and pressed it on my cheek. Felt her presence. How surprising! I enjoyed my mom’s love even in her absence. I got some new friends. I must study well and become a good student. I shall cherish today’s memories for ever.
